We have been sooo busy! I cant believe how crazy the last month has been. Derek has been doing so well in his classes and making his way through the competition. I love my new job! I work at APX Alarm in the retention department. It's a tough job but such a blessing for us right now. Both Derek and I will be taking classes this spring and summer and are looking forward to learning and taking some fun classes. Since the addition of the iMac, my life has been heavenly! I cant thank Derek enough for that miracle. I have been taking editing classes and I feel like I am learning soo much! I hope that I can find a job in the field next summer!

Other than school, work and church, I have started to delve into the blog world. I have internet access at work, so while I wait for calls I browse blogs. Lately I have become obsessed with clean lines and bright colors. I mainly look at interior design blogs and photography blogs and the modern trend is right up my ally. I cant wait till we have a home that is big enough to not look cluttered and dirty, even when its clean. I also cant wait to have a room all my own to put all my books and sticky notes! March Madness

Just had to do a shout out post to Kentucky. Our comeback cats won the SEC tournament!! My in-laws were able to attend the final game and said it was amazing... Derek was freaking out when it went into overtime! Now we are rooting for them in the NCAA Tournament. They are a number one seed in the East and our first game is this Thursday. Its going to be a crazy month, but we are rooting for them to go all the way. Lets go UK!

The Newest Estes

So I came home from work the other night after the longest day of my life! My laptop had died while I was at school, trying to write a paper. Now the battery didnt die, the computer died! It has been trying to die for almost three months but Derek and I keep bringing it back to life. I was so frustrated, I almost threw it on the ground. On top of that, I had so much homework to do and my editing deadline is coming up so I had a ton of papers to edit by this weekend. I went to class pouty and then proceeded to work for 6 hours. It was just one of those days! Derek was being weird and not answering my calls and stuff, which only fueled my fire. I came home wanted to crawl into the fetal position under the covers and never ever come out. Instead, I opened the front door and saw a beautiful, white iMac box on my counter. The water works began! I was in total shock. I read Derek's sweet note and hugged that boy till I remembered that I had a fun new toy!! We stayed up way past our bed time setting it up, playing and marveling over the sleek new computer. I am so grateful to Derek for this sweet surprise. It really will make life so much easier! I can do all my papers on here, and editing will be so much easier. I am so excited to officially be a Mac family :)

By the way, he quickly told me that this was birthday, anniversary and Christmas for the next year... We'll see ;)

Wedding Pictures!

So we finally got our wedding pictures!! We havent figured out how to hang the big picture yet but we did hang the smaller pictures in the family room. It is great to have a piece of our perfect day in our home. We love our house and really enjoy the chance we have to be here in Provo. I love the pictures and am so happy to finally have them!

Valentines Day

Our Valentines Day was pretty mellow this year, but I loved it! We ate some yummy chicken adoboe and watched the Kentucky game. Derek was sweet enough to watch Pride and Prejudice with me and we ate a whole lot of ice cream and chocolate... It was pretty much all of my favorite things! To top it off, I went to get the mail after he got home last night and found these beautiful roses in the mailbox! I love yellow and feel like these roses bring so much happiness and light into the house!

I am so thankful for my wonderful husband. He is such a hardworker and has really dedicated himself to being a good student, husband and friend. I cant imagine my life without Derek and all of the humor he brings into my life! We have so much fun together and have loved all of the experiences we have had as a married couple. I cant wait to see what the future has for us!

UK All The Way!!

In May, when I became an Estes, I learned about this school called University of Kentucky. I learned they are the most winningist (yes that is a word) college basketball program in the country, the alumni of my father-in-law and the true love of Derek's life. So maybe the last part is an exaggeration, but only a little. Since college basketball started, we eat, sleep, breathe and talk Kentucky basketball. I have really come to love watching them play and know all of the stats for Wall, Cousins and Patterson ;) I love taking part of Derek's passion and appreciating the big wins. For Christmas, Derek went with his brother Steve and his Dad to his first live Kentucky game... it was a BIG deal! They went to the big rivalry game and he fell in love with the campus and of course Rupp Arenea. Anyway, I had bought some fabric last year to make a blanket out of, but the fabric wasnt quite right. I told my Nana (my mom's mom), who is an amazing seamstress, and she said she would put that fabric to good use. Today we got a package and inside was two pillows and a bunch of ornaments! We love the pillows... Derek already napped with them! I have a feeling that one day we will have a whole room devoted to Kentucky... UK all the Way!!

Sweet Tooth Fairy!

So today I was running errands in south provo and i had a sweet tooth. So this happens about every four hours for me so it wasnt anything unusual. However, I was in the neighborhood of the worlds best cupcake shop, The Sweet Tooth Fairy. If you live in Provo and havent been there... you need to go (its next to Sams Club in S. Provo). I am in LOVE with the cake bites. They are basically heaven in a bite! We tried a new flavor tonight, peanut butter. Our favorite though is the double fudge. With Valentines in the air... everyone in Provo should go and share these delectable treats with your loved ones!!

So Derek came home from volunteering at the hospital the other day and told me I had a package waiting at the door. I ran outside, like a kid, and found a HUGE gorgeous bouquet of flowers! i was so excited, then had the thought... how much did this cost? Yes, that is what being poor does to you lol. So the story is.... Derek was working at admitting waiting for a chance to translate when this huge bouquet arrived. the women had already checked out (she was only in for a mammogram) so he begged his boss to let him bring them home to me. She was kind kind enough to say yes so now we have these gorgeous flowers in our house.... free of charge!!! It made them even prettier to me!

Derek's Mad Basketball Skills

Derek is currently in two basketball leagues: one at BYU and one for Provo City. He has so much fun with his mission buddies running around and kicking trash. We wives love watching them and cheering on from the sidelines. It makes the snow seem less depressing :)

Christmas with the Humpherys

In traditional Humpherys Family style, we went cardboard boxing!! It was so fun this year to have the hubbies with us and to be able to bring Comet along. Dad dominated the hill, standing up almost all the way down!! Derek was sweet enough to take comet for a few rides, which he absolutely loved. We packed a picnic and enjoyed the perfect weather!
We did so many fun things this Christmas break! We shopped, ate, did SEVEN puzzles, and played several rounds of Balderdash. We loved being with my family and being in Florida. We cant wait to go back and visit soon!

We are so lucky to have our families so near to each other! This Christmas we had the chance to split our Florida Vaca between the Estes and the Humpherys. Our nephew, Luke, came down from Atlanta for three days and did the Orlando Magic basketball camp. He won the best overall player award and a signed JJ Reddick jersey!! It was fun to get to know him better and to hang out with him. We made a gingerbread house while he was here and it turned out pretty dang good if you ask me! We ate so much good food including back to back Five Guys and tons of yummy Publix fried chicken :) For Christmas, the whole family went to Orlando for an amazing Christmas lunch at the Marriott. It was sooo good! Santa even visited the kids and sang carols... it was pretty hilarious. We never had the chance to do a family game night, but i have a feeling we will make up for it next year. It was so fun being with everyone!! We miss them soo much!

New Moon Madness

What a weekend!! It all started friday when Sarah and I got New Moon pedicures. Soo relaxing!! That night, we went on a double date with Sarah and Ryan to go see NEW MOON!!! It really was awesome! I started reading the series back when New Moon had come out and waited anxiously for Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. I am not a huge fan of the actors in the movies, but I do love the story. My hubby was so good to go with me and be my Edward :) Saturday, we went and got some yummy In-n-Out!! We only waited a half hour in the car and boy was it worth it! I swear they put something in those burgers, because we are all craving more!

Today Derek and I are celebrating our six month anniversary. I am sooo grateful for my husband. He is perfect for me!! We have so much in common and he always makes me laugh... plus he is pretty freakin handsome!! We are so blessed in every aspect of our lives, especially in regard to our marriage. How many people get to start out their marriage knowing they will be together for eternity? I am so excited for all that the future has for us!!

The Last Few Months

So we haven't completely disappeared. We have just been spending a lot of time in this pretty building. So much has been going on this semester. Derek is doing great with his heavy course load and still working on his exercise science major. He just got a job to be a referee for the city of Provo to ref. city league basketball!! What a stud, right? I am still pursuing my English degree and working a Buckle part time. I also just started to work for the Education Department at BYU as a part-time editor! It is a dream job and a great opportunity to learn more about the career i am pursuing. Derek turned 22 at the end of September and had a great BBQ with some freinds. We have also had both of our parents out to visit: it has been such a great fall!! We are grateful that the winter has been mild thus far and are super excited to go back to Florida for Christmas. We are loving being out here at the Y and making great friends. Sorry there arent too many exciting pictures, but i will do my best to keep up a little better from now on.

Rafting the Provo River

This weekend we had the chance to raft the Provo river with Sarah, Ryan, Lara and Tyler. Lara and Tyler are in our ward and we love being able to hang out with them. (BTW Lara makes some mean enchiladas!!) So Saturday morning we roughed it up the canyon to try the perilous journey down the rapids. Ok so it really wasnt that bad. The water was freezing but it was hot enough to make up for it. The guys were great navigators and we made it safe and sound down the easy part. Then we left our hubbies to raft the bottom part of the river which turned out to be pretty dangerous. Apparently Tyler fell out and they narrowly passed under a bridge, but they survived with only minor injuries and alot more confidence. The canyon really is a beautiful place: we are so lucky to have such beautiful creations around us! Thanks to our friends for making it all happen!

The Last Month

Derek and I have been so busy! We are getting settled in to our life in Provo and really loving it. I have been working at Buckle three weeks and am really enjoying it. I am getting the hang of the store and love helping people feel better about themselves. Derek is doing great with school! He is studying hard and meeting some great friends, which always makes it easier to study. We are having so much fun and just feel blessed to have the life we do! Cali with the Vorwallers

For the fourth of July we joined the Vorwallers on a road trip to California. It was such a fun weekend, even though it went way too fast! We had so much fun seeing Grandma and Grandpa Humpherys and being able to see the city! Derek had never been, so we spent the day at the Pier and driving around to all the main tourist sites. We also toured Grandpas orchard and ate the best fruit ever! However, the best part was the In'n'out we got on the way home! We were totally satisfied :) I love being married and Derek and i loved our first vaca together! Hopefully there are many more to come!

Honeymoon: Day 4

The last day of our offical honeymoon was spent at sea. We pretty much just laid out and got fried all day long. It was so nice to just have sunny skies and nothing to do! We ate alot that day and just enjoyed our last day on the boat. We loved our cruise: lounging, eating and not having a worry in the world! We are so thankful for the chance we had to go!

The third day was spent in Nassau. We really liked Nassau and loved going to the shopping district right by the port. We found a beautiful beach scene picture from a creepy bahamian man.. but it is perfect for our house. We also took a glass bottom boat tour of the island and found out alot of cool things about Nassau. We also saw a sting ray, a bunch of fish and some cool coral. After the boat tour we went back to the boat, but it rained most of the afternoon. We took the opportunity to nap and visit the hot tubs on the boat. It really was a fun day!

Day 2 was a marvelous day in Freeport. Derek and I had the chance to go snorkeling off the island and see some pretty cool fish. We loved being in the sun all day and just being together. We also enjoyed the afternoon at the pool and tried to win TV theme song trivia. We failed horribly, but only because the shows were from the seventies. We decided not to do the formal dinner and instead ate on the back of the boat looking out at the ocean. It was a perfect day!

Honeymoon: The First 24 Hours

Our wedding was amazing! The whole day was beautiful and it was so fun to have our families with us! We had a chance to spend our first night as newlyweds at a hotel on the beach in Satellite Beach. We had a gorgeous view and could hear the ocean from our room. We had breakfast in bed the next morning and then went to the blessing and naming of Chloe Sophia and Gwen Ruth, our nieces. The blessings were beautiful and Derek had the chance to participate in the blessing, which made it all worth it! Then we went to my parents house and visited with my grandparents who came to the wedding. Sarah and Ryan took us to the boat, and we unpacked and got ready for dinner! The food was amazing!!! We met some fun couples on the boat and just enjoyed being together! When we came back from dinner, our sheets were turned down and a cute towel animal awaited us. It was such a fun first day and we loved being able to be together!!

So my dad got a camera for christmas and took the cutest pictures at Christmas. The problem was that he kept forgetting to email them to me. So finally, after 5 months, I got the pictures! We had such a great New Year with our families. We had the chance to go to dinner with Derek's dad and spend some quality time talking and getting great advise. After, we went to my house and celebrated the new year with my family and some friends. It really was a great New Year and it is so fun to look back and remember this fun time!

Were finally here!!!

My birthday surprises all began on Thursday... I arrived home from work to a beautiful bouquet of yellow flowers... my favorite color! Another surprised arrived not long after... Dereks basketball was cancelled so we got to spend the evening together! The next day in celebration of my 22nd birthday, Derek took me to Blizzard Beach at Disneyworld! It was a perfect day to be outside and i felt like a princess all day. When we arrived, they gave me a pin that said Happy Birthday so i pinned it on my bag... on our way in two employees wished me a Happy B-day!! It was really cute :) The rides were really fun, the lines short and we dominated the toboggan racing... Derek won 2 out of the 3 times we went on! We lounged in the lazy river and got a good tan for the big day. Luckily we both sneaked by without a sunburn! After the waterpark, Derek took me to pick up my wedding present: a new set of scriptures with my nae engraved on them! It was the sweetest gift ever! I love looking at them with my new name on them! The day continued with some TCBY yogurt and then the drive home, which resulted in a very good nap for me :) We had dinner from my favorite Thai place and went and saw the new Star Trek movie which i LOVED!!! I feel like JJ Abrams may be a little obsessed with time travel, but hopefully by the time Lost ends next year i will be less confused :) Anyway, it was the perfect day!! Derek made me feel like a princess and it never ceases to amaze me how thoughtful he really is! This year definitely marks the best birthday yet!

Wedding Preview

Just a few of the centerpieces for the reception!!

So i know that everyone in the world is DYING to know what kind of flowers will be at my wedding and all of the other many details that have gone into my dream wedding..... No? Well i will share anyway. My mom has a student who is from Dubai and he is a master florist! So instead of doing real flowers and worrying about the availability of flowers and colors and if they will wilt in 100 degree weather, we decided to have Mustafa do the flowers. He has done a fabulous job! We have tons of centerpieces and bouquets and boutonnieres strewn about the house, but thanks to Mustafa everything is finished ahead of schedule and is beautiful. I think everything else is pretty much finished... cupcake tasting, dress fitting, venue checks, and rentals! Now we just have to wait it out! I am SOOO glad we didn't have the wedding right after school! I think I would have gone insane! We have already had the chance to spend time with family and enjoy the amazing weather we have had here in Florida. I am sure the next two weeks will be crazy, but it will all pay off!

The Temple

So last Saturday I had the chance to go to the Orlando Florida Temple. It was an amazing experience that i had the chance to share with my parents, Derek and my wonderful future-in-laws. It was a long and somewhat stressful morning, but it ended up being perfect! Afterward we all enjoyed some Panera and Derek slept the whole ride home :) I feel so blessed to have the fullness of the gospel in my life and to have to opportunity to learn and to attend the temple!

Insomnia

So i have inherited many great things from my mother: I love to talk, work, read, laugh, watch corny chick flicks and i love to teach. However, along with those attributes, I have discovered that I have also inherited some of her quirks: claustrophobia, organization skills, migraines and yes... insomnia!! I remember coming home as a teenager and thinking my mom really just wanted to wait up for me at 2 in the morning. Now I understand that it wasn't about me as much as it was about the fact that she would wake up ten times in the night. It really isn't too bad when I am in the middle of the semester and totally exhausted from work, school and life. But since i froze my gym membership and decided to start sleeping so i passed finals, i have found myself in a world full on online TV, blog stalking, and obsessively packing and repacking what i think i might need for the next forty five days of my life, all in the middle of the night. However, despite the long nights alone in my thoughts, I have found that the extra time i have is going to good use. I have come up with clever ideas for organizing our ridiculously small and closetless house, reviewed more than ever for my finals, and gotten myself EXTREMELY excited for my upcoming wedding! I review all of the little details... hoping that it will all come together somehow! Sometimes i cant believe it has been almost six months since we got engaged! I keep forgetting that i didn't always know that Derek was the one, even though i think my family swears they did. I guess what this all comes down too is that despite the fact that i am up at 3 am with just my thoughts, my thoughts always seem to come back to the biggest blessing in my life, my future hubby! Derek is funny, smart, witty, talented, and always strives to be the best person he can be... He really makes all of the hard times seem easier and is a saint for putting up with me! I cant wait until May 23rd!

The New Place

As of March 3rd, Derek and I officailly have an apartment! Dont worry, we dont live there yet, but we have had the chance to move in the furniture we have bought and get some of the things that we have all moved in. Its humble, but we love it! Here are some pictures of the place!

So I have been a total slacker lately when it comes to the blog. Life has been keeping me so busy! Between school, wedding planning, Derek and not wanting to do anything but be with Derek, I have found myself with very little time. In summary, here is what we have been up too.

1. Finding our first apartment! Yes, we found the place we will be living and I cant tell you how excited I am. For any of you who have ever looked for married housing in Provo, you know why I am thanking Heavenly Father everynight we found a place. Within a week, Derek and I looked at over ten apartments and they were either uninhabitable, werent renting for the summer, or already taken. I spent day and night on craigslist, and felt like giving up. The last night we went to three houses and the first wouldnt have fit a couch, let alone a bed. The second had a washer and dryer in place of a dishwasher in the kitchen and smelled like mold. The third house, was GOLD!!! We walked in and right away fell in love! Dont get me wrong, its small and the washer and dryer are in the bathroom not the kitchen, but it is perfect for just the two of us and just in our price range! It is connected to a house i Orem about three miles from campus. It was such an answer to my anxious prayers!

2. Furnishing our first house. I was a little worried that once we found a place, I would have to do all of the work in finding furniture and making it look like a home, but Derek has been wonderful! Our last few date nights have consisted of us with our note pads sitting in the ailse at Target, Wal-Mart, IKEA and D.I. trying to figure out what looks half decent and is in our price range. We have so much fun just dreaming about what the house will look like. We cant wait to move in.

3. Figuring out what "finances" really are. Derek's ward advertised a seminar that BYU is hosting that povides financial advise and knowledge to any BYU students. So, for a whole $6 and three thursdays, we signed up. It has been so good for us to learn about 401K's, taxes, budget and for me to learn that clothes at Target cant fall into the necessary category of my budget anymore. We have really set goal and learned about each other's familys and lifestyles in a suprisingly low stress atmosphere. It has been so good for me to set goals and realize that although Derek may like my shirt, he will like dinner that night even more :)

5. Planning a wedding in Florida from Utah. I dont think I really need to elaborate, but for any of you who know me well, I am struggling with the whole not being able to make sure everything looks just right problem. I dont know what I would do without email and cellphones. So far everything is falling into place and I know it will be beautiful. I am so grateful to my mom and future mother-in-law who are being more helpful then I could have ever dreamed.

4. Falling in Love. I know its cheesy, but honestly, I feel like most of my time is spent learning about Derek and caring more for him. I am sure we are still in the "honeymoon phase," but I feel like we are really coming to know each other and accept each other, whatever that may entail.

5. Being Grateful. I have to add this in last because I know that everything that Derek and I have is a gift from our Heavenly Father. I am so grateful for his continuous love and presence in my life. I am so grateful to have found a honest, good man who will take me to the temple to be sealed for time and eternity. What more could I really ask for!

This year Derek and I got to celebrate Christmas several times. I think my favorite was our own Christmas which we celebrated in Provo before going back to Florida. It was so fun to sit around the tree and exchange the games we had gotten for each other. I got Derek Mancala, one of my favorites, Connect Four, his favorite, and Scrabble. Derek got me Pictionary and to my suprise a digital photo frame was inside! Its a perfect addition to our growing collection of things for our house. Lost is coming back!

So Derek and i got totally addicated to Lost this fall. We used Lost as our go to release from school and stress, and got through the seasons suprisingly fast. Now we are waiting for the new season to start. I thought i would post this link for all of the Lost fans out there. For those who arent, i think this will make you want to start watching!

Temple Square at Christmas

The Saturday after Thanksgiving we had the chance to visit Temple Square and see the Christmas lights. We went with Taylor and Stephanie and had a great time. First we had dinner at Gateway and then scalped tickets to the Jazz game. After the game we bundled up and went to Temple Square. It was packed, but that didnt take away from the beautiful lights and spirit there. Derek and I loved the various nativity scenes scattered around the Square and were amazed at how many strands of lights it took to light up just one tree! It really brought the spirit of Christmas to us this year.

Fall Fun

I cant believe the semester is almost over! It seems like yesterday we were going to our first day of classes. Luckily this semester hasnt been just work and school. We have had the chance to do so many fun things with our friends who have come to mean so much to us. The 2 for 1 coupon book has been our trusted companion, along with trips to Salt Lake and NCAA football on Xbox. This semester we have had the chance to go camping with Caitlin and Andrew, carve pumpkins with Derek's mission buddies and roommates, attend BYU football games, go to Comedy Sports and attend General Conference with our families. I am sure next semester will be just as much fun as we are getting even closer to our wedding day!

The Proposal

Derek finally proposed! I think we are still in shock! It happened on Tuesday November 4th. I was home sick from classes and Derek was taking care of me. I asked him to go get me medicine and he was gone for almost an hour! I was so frustrated when he got back, but tried to be patient while he got the medicine all set up downstairs. He finaly came up stairs and sat down next to me, all smiles and hugs. He handed me the medicine and told me to read the note atached to the bottle. In the note it said we would be together forever and that he loved me. I looked up and he was on one knee. He said my name and I told him to shut up. He had been faking me out for weeks so I didnt believe him. We laughed and he sat down next to me and I reached for the medicine. He told me to take the medicine in the bottle first. When I opened the bottle there was a ring sitting on top of all of the pills. I couldnt bleive it! Derek got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes and put on the beautiful ring! His roommates were all there and took pictures of the whole thing. We couldnt be happier! We are hoping to get married May 15th 2009 in the Orlando Florida temple.

Derek's 21st birthday!

In celebration of Derek becoming an offical adult, Caitlin, Andrew, Derek and I all went to dinner at Los Hermanos. Andrew made sure to let the waitress know we had a birthday boy at the table and she didnt hold back! Derek was sung too by the staff and wore that sweet sombraro like a champ! Although it wasn't we had planned, it turned out to be a great night!
